Instant Triple Chocolate Brownie

Yes, that is a picture of something you can throw together in a matter of minutes. Yes, it tastes just as good as it looks. And yes, I’ve eaten one almost everyday since I developed the recipe. Just to make sure we’re all on the same page, that’s a dark chocolate brownie, smothered in white chocolate and sprinkled with crunchy cacao nibs.

Cacao nibs, in case you are wondering, are chunks of cacao beans- the bean that cocoa powder is processed from. Basically it’s raw chocolate and full of nutrients, like beta-carotene, zinc and magnesium. Speaking of magnesium, did you know that cravings for chocolate can be related to low levels of magnesium in the body?

Your Guide to Shopping… Vegan!

Ever wander down the health food aisle at your local supermarket and go, “I can’t afford this!”

Never fear, I’m giving you my tips for grocery shopping without breaking the bank.

Tip #1: Plan your meals for the week

If you have a general idea of what you’re going to eat for the upcoming week, shopping will be a lot less overwhelming. If you’re unsure about your week, or if you’re the kind of person who decides dinner five minutes before eating, stock up on staples: potatoes, rice, and beans are all good places to start. Is Organic Worth the Money?

When I started shopping after transitioning to veganism, I was baffled by the amount of produce that was truly available to me. I mean, what’s a cactus pear, and more importantly, how do I eat it? Grocery stores nowadays carry such a variety of fruits and vegetables that it’s a new vegan’s dream come true. But what about organic produce? Is it better than conventional? And why does it cost so much more? I’m here to break it down for you.

Here’s what I found:

  • There isn’t consensus about whether or not organic is better for you or not.
  • Organic will almost always cost more than conventional.
